A Path For Every Athlete
Supporting Growth at Every Stage.
At YBAC Hurricanes, we believe swimming should support growth in sport and in life. Through caring coaching, strong fundamentals, and a supportive team environment,
we help athletes build confidence, responsibility, leadership, and lasting relationships within our community.
Our Development Philosophy
Structured for Growth.
YBAC Hurricanes is a year-round swim team that follows a two-season competition model aligned with YMCA and USA Swimming standards. Our training blocks are periodized to support athlete development across the year — with clear goals, intentional recovery, and seasonal progressions that build physical and mental resilience.
For our Competitive, High-Performance, & Masters Swimmers:
Swimmers in the Competitive and High-Performance levels are expected to participate year-round, unless otherwise arranged with coaches. Long-term development in these levels is built on consistency, appropriate training progression, and active participation in both Short Course and Long Course seasons.
For Masters swimmers, participation is flexible and can be adjusted based on personal training goals or fitness needs throughout the year.
Year-Round Schedule:
Short Course Season (September - March)
- Focused on 25-yard or 25-meter racing, foundational technical skill, aerobic development, and age-appropriate competition.
- Athletes in Competitive and High-Performance levels train 2–6 times per week depending on group placement.
- Emphasis is placed on technical consistency, training rhythm, and early-season development.
- Key meets may include YMCA duals, regional USA Swimming meets, state championships, and YMCA Nationals.
Long Course Season (April - July)
- Focused on 50-meter racing (Olympic distance), speed endurance, race execution, and peak performance.
- Training volume and intensity are tailored for seasonal progression and individualized goals.
- Meets typically include YMCA invitationals, USA Swimming long course meets, and qualifying-level competitions.
- This is a critical training phase for High Performance swimmers preparing for summer championship meets (Futures, Nationals, etc.).
For our Technical Level Swimmers (Technique & Fitness):
- The Technical level is the only seasonal group and is offered in two sessions:
- Fall/Winter (September – March)
- Spring/Summer (April – July)
- Families may choose one or both seasons based on readiness, availability, and interest.
- This structure allows young swimmers to develop foundational skills without pressure or long-term commitment.
- Swimmers typically train 2-3x/week for 45 minutes, with low-pressure introduction to racing if ready.
